Sprout is a 1964 Dodge 400 short school bus. She served time in California before retiring, then was stripped a bit and sent to the farm storing junk for ~20 years (possibly with some time in Michigan). Missing the road, she was dusted off and given some basic care to be roadworthy in 2017. In 2019 she saw the great country at a slow highway pace from Oregon to New Jersey. Shortly after she traveled to MA with intent to be a hot-rod, but had a career change recently and signed up to be... our mobile storefront. Ambitions exist to have her double with tiny home amenities to help with events away from home and for office comforts.
Sprout's 2020 campaign for travelling sales was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but she may be spotted running errands/deliveries, and hopes to be a staple representing small business in Portsmouth.
Sprout, a 1964 Dodge 400, has an original 318A engine and 4-speed transmission. She has two axles with dual rear wheels, throttle and choke controls on the dash, and her braking system has a unique vacuum-assist. She's shorter than most short buses at just over 19ft. She sports that unique west coast sweeping curved rear roof.
She's an open book! We are looking for the community and our followers to help drive her updates and upgrades. She will be repaired but not restored... as state law requires us to actually make her LESS like her original (she can't look like a school bus). What would you like to see as a result of Sprout's rehab?!
Sprout has her own blog! Her long journey to serve the community has barely begun. We would love your help in design and build!
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
